Beautiful splashes of lavender against an endless sky in a wonderfully symmetrical lavender field… is this not the quintessential setting for gorgeous family photos, engagement photos, or maternity photos? Our lavender farm has it all! Come try this ideal location. Here are some tips to help you take the very best photos in our fields.

Take Advantage of Different Angles

Lavender fields are sown in wonderfully straight lines which makes for fantastic photos. The clean rows of lavender bushes offer themselves perfectly for portrait and for landscape shots. Use different angles to capture as many flowers as possible: try low-angle shots from the ground, close-ups, and shots from various distances.

Try sitting on the ground and including a few out-of-focus lavender branches in the foreground for a pretty romantic effect.

Walk around the fields and explore parts that are flat and those on an incline. Create an impressive effect by taking overhead shots of your subjects with a perspective of the entire field behind them.

Take Advantage of Different Spots

The lavender field itself is a great subject for your photos but did you know our site also features a lake and a bridge? Ideal for photos! Reflections off the water can offer your photos beautiful effects, both from the ground and from up above.

You’ll also find a series of Adirondack chairs scattered across the site and they are ideal for photo sessions. Sit the kids down in one and snap a few shots… before they wiggle away!

Rain or Shine

Beautiful sunny days without a cloud in the sky make for great landscape shots but are not always the best for taking portraits. An overcast day creates softer photos without all those shadows falling across the face… and also keeps your subjects from squinting from all the brightness!

Knowing what the weather will be like can be tricky in the summer, but it’s always a good day for a photo shoot. Take advantage of whatever Mother Nature has in store for you when you visit our fields!

Choosing the Right Colour Clothing

For the best and prettiest contrasts against the violet blues of lavender flowers, ask your subjects to wear something pale or white without any patterns. Dark or denim blue and fuchsia also make for great colour combinations against the lavender glow of the fields.

Looking to go all the way with your photo shoot? Go for some Côte d’Azur bohemian chic with a long, flowing, lacy dress and a straw hat. After all, a photo shoot is all about creating an unforgettable moment… so, go for it!

Having fun is what’s important, so wear something that makes you feel wonderful. It will show in the photos!

Pose with a Bouquet of Dried Lavender

It can be tricky to know what to do with our hands during a photo shoot. How about holding a bouquet of dried lavender? This can help you create different poses, like close-ups of hands and flowers, offering the camera a wink from behind the bouquet, overhead shots of the bouquet against a blanket laid along the ground… have fun, be creative!

Take advantage of the Golden Hour

About an hour before the sun sets, the sky turns pink-orange and offers soft, warm light. This is known as the Golden Hour. It is particularly cherished by photographers as it helps avoid creating harsh shadows on the face, as often seen in very sunny weather. Come and experience it during our Romantic Thursdays when our lavender fields will be open until 9 p.m. (please check the activity schedule). A unique moment of romance amidst the Magog lavender fields!

Will you be taking pictures with us this summer? We are waiting for you! Here is a glimpse of our lavender fields currently in bloom.
